I use it to put my initials in the bottom of my sculptures where it is not seen, like the bottom of the foot on a dragon. I made it myself out of a chunk of brass. Jim Thingwold |
When I made this Initials-Stamp no one cared if the piece was signed
or Initialed there was no monetary benefit for do it. I did not want to
spend any more time on a piece then need... to pick up a tool to do this
would slow my production down and that meant less money.
I need something that was hands free and since 90% of the pieces I make have a flat spot to stand or sit on (i.e. bottom of a bird, elephant or horses foot etc.) why not flatten them on a plate with raised letters that would leave a impression in the piece. As I recall the first one I made was smaller letters (too small) the glass not flow into the spaces of the letters. I then made a second one (yes, I still have the first one) with larger letters and it worked fine and from that point on I used it without even thinking about it. Whenever I flatten a spot on a piece I used the plate. The plate is large enough to flatten any of my pieces, yet small enough to move to any spot on my workbench to accommodate the piece I am working on. 01/25/2001 |
