- It's a Tankless Job... Using DME Oxygen Concentrators for Lampworking. by De Clarke - For several years, some lampworkers have been exploring an alternative to tanked oxygen (at the end of this article I'll discuss an alternative to tanked propane as well). An affordable alternative is the DME (durable medical equipment) oxygen concentrator.
- What's a DME oxy concentrator and where do you get one?
- Once you've got one, what can you do with it?
- Now that you've got the thing... (setup and use)
- My personal setup
- Photo 1 Shows how the torch gas line is connected to the domestic gas main pipe near the dryer.
- Photo 2 Shows how the green and red standard torch hose is spliced into the clear PVC to the oxy box and the gray reinforced hose to the gas fitting.
- Photo 3 Medical Oxygen Concentrator.
- Photo 4 Shows the medical oxy generator in its "hush box" -- i.e. its shipping container, padded inside with styrofoam panels glued on each interior wall. The generator is sitting on a wooden pad, which is supported by 3 layers of bubble wrap. The hush box is independently supported on some 2x4s.
- The Pushing Technique by Robert Morey - The technique of pushing a rod of glass into a gather of clear is one I use often. This was originally shown to me by Brian Kerkvliet when I attended his Milli Madness workshop. It is used to form mushrooms, jellyfish, flower stamen, and many other things inside a clear gather of glass. I will describe the process of creating a mushroom pendant to illustrate the technique, as that is the way it was first shown to me.

- A Beginner’s Guide to Glass Alchemy Colored Borosilicate: Finally, the big question was whether someone with little borosilicate experience could achieve specific effects consistently using this glass. The answer is a resounding "Yes"! After learning how to handle striking and annealing these colors I'm confident that other newcomers to colored borosilicate, as well as seasoned veterans, can also achieve excellent, consistent results with these new rods from Glass Alchemy, Ltd.
- Meeting the Glass Guru: Pete Vanderlaan is a quiet sort of person, introverted but with a quick wit and dry sense of humor. I've often thought if you let a fireman near hot glass there would be a career change. This is true for Pete who was once a Fire Chief. He's been making glass art at the furnace for 25+ years. His wife is also working in glass, primarily laminating plate.

- Mini Ornaments by Candice King. - There is more than one-way to skin a cat, and more than one way to blow an ornament. I discovered a prime example of this recently with my friend Jeff Eckes. A few years ago he shared some written instructions about how he makes mini ornaments with me. I followed his instructions, and they worked, but I was still frustrated, and went off in my own direction using the basis of his technique. In the last few weeks...

- The Nuts And Bolts Of A Whimsical Creation There is quite a lot preparation before you start assembling the piece. On this piece, she began by making the wings and the cane for the legs. First, the ribbon for the wing and tail is prepared by flattening about 1 inch on 2 ½" rod....

- Glasscraft unveils new world-class teaching studio - Work area dimensions in this new Glasscraft teaching facility are large enough to accommodate students and instructors with generous amounts of table surface positioned for standing or sitting whichever the student prefers, and excellent lighting. Monthly workshops provide students with intensive time with instructors and lunch is provided to maximize working time.
- LAMPWORKING INGENUITY PART #1 by Glass Master, Harald Wolfgang Eberhart - With the encouragement of Robert Mickelsen and some of my persistent students, I have decided to take an active part in writing several articles about the timely and essential technical know how in lamp working. My successful family glassblowing background provides me with enough insight. Having an accomplished teacher can make a big difference and in this case I was most fortunate. With this in mind, I will write a series of articles for Glass Line and sincerely hope to be a benefit to our readers.

Okay, here’s an answer to a couple questions that have been posed lately.
Q. How do you get your initial gather together?
Q. How do you estimate the amount of glass for your initial gather if you’re trying to make a specific size marble?- Alternative Tubing Technique by Mark A. Selleck - I read with interest Robert Mickelsen’s recent article on lampworking tubing. His presentation was very clear in explaining the technique he uses, and his results speak for themselves. However, I would like to present a slightly different perspective as regards technique, specifically the idea of "proper" technique.
